The citizen in Beihai city of Guangxi province in China will soon enjoy one-stop e-government services. Huawei-3Com has recently started a key project for Beihai municipal government to construct a high speed broadband network to cover all its departments. The new platform will serve the functions of data exchange, certification, information storage and public sharing.

The new network will connect all the government administrative departments with higher reliability and Triple-play, enabling data, voice and video over IP, which requires higher demand for bandwidth and QoS. The centralized management system for the network facilitates flexible and convenient management, allowing seamless operation for various application systems.

Based on the actual needs, the network has core, convergence and access layers. At core layer that include the network branches for 3 major government departments, Huawei-3Com's 10GE multi-services routing switches S8512 are deployed and connect with IDS security measures to ensure core network safety. At convergence layer, S6506R, S3552F-HI intelligent multi-layers switches support 1G and interact with the IDS at core layer for security. At access layers level, SecPath 100F firewalls offer filters and protection. The whole network devices management is centralized under Quidview network management system for higher efficiency.

After the new network is ready, Beihai city will be equipped with a unified platform to cover all government departments in the whole city. Applications like video-conferencing and IP telephony will be possible. The government will enhance its administrative service quality to citizens with a platform capable for information sharing across the city and providing e-services to promote the government policies and public education.
