The Challenge
Shinsei Bank was one of the first group of customers in Japan to introduce IP Phone solutions into their networks. In response to the requirements of an increasing network workload, Shinsei Bank wanted to upgrade their IDC network to obtain higher reliability and performance, while remaining compatible with existing IP Phones in order to protect existing investments. These were the project's key concerns.
Why Huawei-3Com?
As the best choice, Huawei-3Com's Quidway® switches are highly suitable for a LAN campus network with core, distribution and access layer, and can be implemented in many different industries including banking.
Power over Ethernet was one of the most important functions in this project because Shinsei Bank had already purchased different types of another vendor's IP Phones over several years, all of which included IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard powered devices. The Quidway® switches can satisfy this PoE requirement.
The new network by Huawei-3Com can fully protect current investments.
Technology Solution
Quidway® switches are introduced into the network, working in the IDC building and covering the core layer, distribution layer and access layer of Shinsei Bank's network.
In the core layer of the IDC network, Quidway® S8500 switches have been deployed, while, in the distribution and access layers, Quidway® S5516 and Quidway® S3952EI-PWR switches have been used.
The PoE enabled Quidway® S3952EI-PWR accommodate not only the IEEE 802.3af standard IP Phone, but also the existing equipment's proprietary Power over Ethernet standard IP Phone, thereby protecting the bank's investment. Working together with the POE feature, the Quidway® S3952EI-PWR places IP Phones in the Voice VLAN and guarantees high priority.
All products including the VRRP, MSTP, RSTP and IEEE802.3af used in this case, meet international standards, thus guaranteeing compatibility with current equipments, so that customers do not need to worry about inter-operation with another vendor's products, as long as that vendor's equipment also meets international standards.
The Benefits
Shinsei Bank has successfully migrated their many services and applications, such as Voice (IP Phone) and data, into the network gradually, and perhaps in the future, will include video or multicast applications. Upgrading from current equipment to Quidway® switches in the Shinsei Bank IDC network increased the whole network's performance, reliability and availability. Furthermore, the newly deployed Quidway® S3952EI-PWR provides good adaptability to current IP Phones and protects the customer's original investment.
