Three-in-one Solution for China MSA

Customer Info
The China MSAˇ]Maritime Safety Administrationˇ^ is having 90 staff responsible for surveillance of the national maritime security and prevention of ships pollution, examination of ships and maritime facilities, navigation safeguard management, administrative law enforcement and management roles on traffic department production safety.

It is administering the highest end network and the focal point of network and conversion for downlink connection with the subordinated maritime units. Since it bears the whole network"s capacity processing and conversion, it requires the highest standard for network facilities features, security, reliability and services support.

The Challenge
The China MSA underwent the first phrase installation for aquatic safety surveillance data system. Due to the constraint of construction cycle and scale of investment, the first phrase computer network only covers the direct subordinated maritime affair bureau and part of the sub-branch units.

Most of the sub-branch units and front-line units do not share the corresponding network facilities that hinder the realization of compatible up and downlink network platform, creating limitations in mutual sharing and flow of communications in the whole maritime system.

To promptly facilitate full utilization of the phase one developed software system by the sub-branch and frontline units, to guarantee the unity of the data source of aquatic safety surveillance system, and to preserve the unity in the services management process, it is mandatory to build up immediately LAN for the sub-branch and frontline units, and an integrated WAN to cover all these units, enabling the maritime affair basic unit to have the corresponding services operation platform.

Why Huawei-3Com?
Huawei-3Com created a new network topology with more clear and simplified structures between different subordinated and headquarters units without unnecessary routes, maximizing the data speed and traffic to satisfy the MSA services requirement for centralized data.

The traffic logic follows the current network setup, in compliant with the workflow of administrative and business functions for easier implementation and simpler management hierarchy.

With faster and more secure routes for end-to-end connection, it supports better real time demands like VoIP. The network topology can also cater to the expansion need for higher reliability and expansibility.

Technology Solution
Huawei-3Com installed for the China MSA a Quidway® NE-40-8 as backbone router of high reliability, feature-rich functions, multi-services and high scalability.

Quidway® NetEngine 40 series Universal Switching Router (USR) inherited different routing and switching technologies for smooth transmission & high capacity with IP services and low cost Ethernet switching abilities, offering much more features and services for flexible and high performance price ratio.

Quidway® S6506R is served as a backbone switch as the core application of the LAN to offer powerful applications for management and comprehensive safety mechanism.

The Benefits
The customers can now enjoy a three-in-one network convergence of data, video, and voice over IP. It not only guarantees effective communications for total network services, but also enhances strong manageability.

The completed network will become a platform for up and downlink connection for the national maritime system to satisfy high demand for efficiency, reliability and unified loading of the daily business, email, video-conferencing and voice communication needs. The new network allows a vast room for expanding loading needs to meet the MSA fast business growth.
