Hynix Semiconductor was established in 1983 and merged with LG Semiconductor in 1999. Since its beginning, Hynix has steadily grown into a world-class semiconductor manufacturer with 28 offices overseas and the world's second largest Dynamic RAM (DRAM) production capacity spread over three manufacturing complexes in Korea and China. To maintain its position as one of the industry's best technical development centers, Hynix requires a fast and reliable network that is supported by the latest technologies.
To accomplish this, Hynix needed to upgrade the existing distribution and access switches that were running its manufacturing lines at its headquarters facility in Icheon, South Korea. Hynix selected H3C to supply high performance GE links between backbone and workgroup switches and to improve overall reliability and convergence capabilities to guarantee network stability and uninterrupted service. Hynix also required that all new devices be fully compatible with its existing backbone equipment.
Technology Solution
H3C installed multiple H3C S5624P Ethernet switches in the distribution layer of Hynix's network, and connected them to the backbone of each manufacturing line group FAB. Existing switches were re-positioned as backups to provide even further redundancy.
In the access layer, S3952P-SI/H3C S3600-52P-SI switches were distributed throughout the network with dual uplinks to the distribution switches to address Hynix's concerns for maximum reliability. The H3C S3952P-SI/H3C S3600-52P-SI switches feature advanced quality of service (QoS), rate-limiting, access control lists (ACLs), static and Routing Information Protocol (RIP) routing to provide Hynix with a cost-effective path for meeting current and future service requirements. The S3900/H3C S3600 series also take advantage of 802.1Q and RSTP/MSTP technologies to connect access, distribution and core layers for simplified management and efficiency.
