Huawei-3Com has abundant experience in constructing campus network for universities. Northwest University has the longest history in north western China. It recently decided to expand its network to reach the southern district of the campus and upgraded to 10GE by Huawei-3Com.

10GE campus network represents a significant move to elevate the academic standard of the Northwest University to first-class international level. To match with the fast increasing student population, the campus network needs to expand and upgrade for higher reliability, security and open up opportunities for video and VoIP applications.

To fully satisfy the actual needs, Huawei-3Com will construct three 10GE core network nodes and seven 10GE convergent network nodes. For core layer, Quidway® S8512 and S8505 10GE core switches are deployed to provide high density, high capacity convergent power and abundant services. For convergent and access layer, Quidway® S5600 and 3900 are selected for its intelligent features brought by IRF (Intelligent Resilient Framework) technology that enables the network to scale as it grows for future seamless expansibility. The whole network can realize effective network management, AAA and XLOG auditing.

After the network upgrade, the newly enrolled 8,000 student and teachers in the southern district of the campus can now share the 10GE platform for e-education, e-library as well as other business functions such as OA, finance, etc. Through the network, students are free to select their own curriculum anytime anywhere, teaching and learning is now more interactive with Video applications.

With extensive experience in education solutions, Huawei-3Com has recently also accomplished various network projects in western part of China, such as Xi'an Jiaotong University, Northwest University for Nationalities, IPv6 laboratory for Lanzhou University.
